Welcome to the TSU Library Learning Center Student Employee Guide

This guide will help you understand what is expected of you while working as a student employee at the Library Learning Center. It provides an overview of your responsibilities, outlines processes for common tasks, and offers guidance to help you perform your job with confidence and professionalism.

Library Assistant Responsibilities
The primary responsibility of the Student Library Assistant is to provide excellent service to our patrons. Specific duties that the Library Assistant may perform include, but are not limited to:

General Duties

  • Assist patrons in using the Bibliotheca Self-Check out located at the circulation/Welcome desk

  • Daily check the Drop boxes for returned Items.

  • Check in returned and Shelve returned materials in correct order

  • Conduct shelf reading and complete assigned duties according to the posted schedule

  • Assist with opening or closing procedures based on shift schedule

  • Gather and Record usage statistics, including patrons counts, material circulation, Collaborative Study Spaces, and computer labs

Services

  • Provide directional assistance to patrons (e.g., “Where is this book located?”)

  • Help patrons find their way around the library (e.g., locating books or resources)

  • Handle routine requests for paper and basic assistance with library computers, printers, and photocopiers

  • Direct patrons with complex or research-related questions to the Librarian on duty, or take a message if no librarian is available

Projects

  • Complete assigned work projects promptly

  • Assist with maintenance of general collections and periodical collections, including shelving, shelf reading, and shifting materials

  • Help with processing books, DVDs, and periodicals for shelving (e.g., covering, taping, stamping)

  • Perform other duties as assigned

Time Sheet

As a student employee at the TSU Library Learning Center, you are responsible for accurately recording and submitting your work hours each pay period. Use the instructions below to complete your timesheet on time and ensure timely payment.

Year: 2025
Timesheet Status: Not Started
Due Date: Varies-check your email reminder for the exact date and time

1. Log in to MyTSU Web.
2. Go to the Human Resources tab and select Employee Self Service.
3. Select Time Sheet.
4. Choose your job title.
5. Enter and preview your time.
   - If more than 8 hours in a day, explain in Comments.
6. Submit for approval.
7. Certify by re-entering your PIN.
8. Look for: 'Your time sheet was submitted successfully.'


 

Tip: Submit early to avoid last-minute issues.

Payroll: Biweekly Payroll
Year: 2025
Timesheet Status: Not Started
Due Date: Varies – check your email reminder for the exact date and time

1. Log in to MyTSU Web.
2. Go to the Human Resources tab and select Employee Self Service.
3. Select Time Sheet.
4. Choose your job title.
5. Enter and preview your time for each day in the pay period.
   - If more than 8 hours in a day, explain in Comments.
6. Submit for approval.
7. Certify by re-entering your PIN.
8. Look for: 'Your time sheet was submitted successfully.'

Tip: Submit after your last shift for the period to avoid missing the deadline.

 

Payroll Schedule

Regular Semesters (Fall & Spring):

  • Student employees are paid on the 1st of each month.

Summer I & II Sessions:

  • Student employees are paid on the 15th and 30th of each month.
