2025 Black History Month: Reading List

Black labor built America. Yet, for centuries, Black workers have fought for more than wages—they have fought for dignity, justice, and the right to exist beyond their labor.

This 2025 Black History Month Reading List is a tribute to that fight. Inspired by this year's theme, African Americans & Labor, these books cut through the myths, exposing the backbreaking work that fueled economies, the battles waged in fields and factories, and the relentless push for fair wages, rights, and respect.

From enslaved laborers to union organizers, from domestic workers to Black Wall Street visionaries, these stories demand to be witnessed. Some lay bare exploitation and struggle. Others celebrate defiance, innovation, and triumph. Together, they remind us: Black labor has never been just about work—it has been about survival, resistance, equity, and the right to dream.

Read. Remember. Honor.
